About Ex Novo
Ex Novo Brewing Company is a community-focused brewery based in Corrales, New Mexico. Our motto, “Drink Beer. Do Good.”, is pretty simple, and we try to live up to it: make great beer, take care of our people, and use our business to do some good along the way.
Our Corrales campus is home to our production brewery and taproom, producing around 10,000 barrels annually for distribution throughout New Mexico and our Ex Novo locations in Corrales and Albuquerque.
We’re looking for an experienced brewer and thoughtful leader to take the reins of our brewing program. Someone who knows their way around a brewhouse, understands the bigger picture of production, and genuinely enjoys building and supporting a great team.
The Role
The Head Brewer oversees brewery production at Ex Novo, including brewing, cellar, and packaging operations, and reports directly to the Owner. Our Packaging Manager reports to the Head Brewer and leads the day-to-day work of the packaging team.
This is a leadership role, but it’s definitely not a desk job. We want our Head Brewer to stay connected to the beer and the people making it. You’ll regularly participate in brew days and cellar work while also keeping an eye on the larger production picture: scheduling, tank utilization, inventory, quality, maintenance, staffing, and what needs to happen next.
A big part of this role is also developing the team around you. We’re looking for someone who can set clear expectations, communicate well, give useful feedback, and create systems that help everyone do their jobs successfully.
You don’t need to be the person who does everything. In fact, we don’t want you to be. We want someone who can build a strong team, trust the expertise of the people around them, and make sure things get followed through.
What You’ll Be Doing
Brewing & Production
Oversee brewing and cellar operations for our approximately 10,000-barrel annual production brewery.
Coordinate brewing, cellar, and packaging operations so production runs smoothly from grain to finished beer.
Build and manage production schedules based on inventory, sales forecasts, distribution needs, taproom demand, packaging capacity, and upcoming releases.
Regularly participate in brew days and stay connected to day-to-day production.
Maintain consistency and quality across our beer portfolio.
Collaborate on recipe development, seasonal releases, new products, and improvements to existing beers.
Manage raw material needs, ingredient ordering, and inventory.
Maintain accurate production records and well-documented brewery processes.
Coordinate tank utilization, production flow, packaging schedules, and finished beer needs.
Help identify and prioritize equipment, maintenance, and facility needs.
Work closely with Quality, Packaging, Sales, and company leadership to keep beer moving efficiently through the brewery.
Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient production environment.
Leading the Team
Our Head Brewer directly manages the brewing and cellar team and works closely with our Packaging Manager, who leads the packaging crew. You’ll be responsible for creating clear roles and expectations, giving people the support and tools they need to succeed, and holding the team to a high standard. That includes regular coaching and feedback, training and development, performance conversations, and addressing issues when they come up rather than letting them linger.
We want to create a production culture where people take ownership of their work, communicate with each other, keep learning, and are proud of the beer they make.
Put simply, we’re looking for someone who wants to build a team, not simply carry one.
Production & Facility Leadership
The Head Brewer is also one of the central operational leaders of our Corrales production facility.
You’ll work with the Packaging Manager to make sure brewing and packaging priorities stay aligned, and collaborate closely with our experienced Quality team on equipment performance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, quality standards, facility needs, and continuous improvement.
You won’t be expected to personally solve every mechanical or technical problem that comes up. You will be expected to make sure problems are identified, communicated, assigned to the right person, and followed through to resolution.
Being successful here means paying attention to the whole operation, communicating across departments, and knowing when to bring your own expertise to the table and when to lean on someone else’s.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to find someone with:
Significant professional brewing experience, ideally in a production brewery.
A strong understanding of brewing science, fermentation, cellar operations, sanitation, quality control, and production planning.
Experience leading, supervising, or developing a brewing or production team.
Experience coordinating brewing, cellar, and packaging operations.
Strong organizational and production-planning skills.
Experience managing raw materials, inventory, and production schedules.
Working knowledge of brewery equipment, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and production facility operations.
The ability to troubleshoot problems and make good decisions when things don’t go according to plan.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to leadership.
A willingness to stay hands-on and connected to brewing while leading the larger production operation.
Previous Head Brewer experience is great, but it isn’t the only path to this role. If you’re an experienced production brewer or brewing leader who’s ready for the next step and excited about developing a team, we’d like to hear from you too.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $65,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

The Person We’re Hoping to Find
Great beer matters enormously to us. So do the people making it.
We’re looking for someone who loves the craft but understands that being a Head Brewer isn’t about being the person who knows everything or does everything.
It’s about creating an environment where people communicate, take ownership, learn from mistakes, hold themselves and each other to a high standard, and take pride in what goes into every tank.
If you’re an experienced brewer who wants to make excellent beer, develop good people, and help lead the next chapter of Ex Novo, we’d love to hear from you.
